DESCRIPTION

Afrodelic, the captivating solo project of guitarist and producer Victor Diawara, is set to make waves with his debut album ‘Dusunkun Hakili’ (The memory of the heart), released on June 5th, 2022. This remarkable collection of songs serves as a heartfelt tribute to his late father, the esteemed Malian writer and poet Gaoussou Diawara, who left a profound impact on his life.

Having traversed the world, from Lithuania to Mali, Germany to Ireland, and back to Lithuania, Victor’s musical journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. As the frontman of the popular Lithuanian band Skamp, he achieved immense success, releasing 8 albums and captivating audiences across Europe. Beyond his artistic prowess, Victor is also a celebrated music producer and the driving force behind Lithuania’s influential alternative venue – art factory Loftas, known for hosting groundbreaking gigs by renowned local and international artists.

Afrodelic, born in 2018, marks a new chapter in Victor’s musical odyssey, blending African rhythms with electronic elements to create an intriguing fusion. The first single from the forthcoming album, ‘Le Temps est venu’ (The Time Has Come), has been released, featuring lyrics by his father, Gaoussou Diawara.

Gaoussou Diawara’s legacy as a poet, novelist, and scholar shines brightly, with his contributions earning him prestigious accolades and profound respect. His profound insights into African history and the impact of colonialism continue to resonate, particularly in today’s context of Black Lives Matter protests.

With ‘Le Temps est venu’ and other tracks recorded in Bamako, Mali, alongside local musicians and singers, Victor skillfully blends electronic elements in his Vilnius studio, creating a harmonious fusion of influences.

As Victor emphasizes the significance of his father’s words in the context of contemporary issues, he advocates for non-violent activism, much like the teachings of Martin Luther King Jr. The lyrics carry deep meaning in the Black Lives Matter movement, shedding light on the struggles faced by African youth due to governance issues, corruption, and foreign dependency.

The music video for ‘Le Temps est venu,’ artfully crafted by multi-award-winning filmmaker Arthur Cauty, powerfully complements the song’s message. Inspired by Cauty’s poignant film about the Black Lives Matter march in Bristol, Victor knew he found the perfect collaborator. The video beautifully captures the essence of the lyrics and serves as a touching tribute to his father’s poem.

As Afrodelic gears up for the debut album’s release and an exciting live show featuring captivating visuals, they eagerly anticipate connecting with music enthusiasts worldwide, starting with the Europavox On Air festival on June 25th. Afrodelic is a musical journey that blends cultures, transcends borders, and embraces a shared passion for meaningful and impactful music.
